KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State head women's basketball coach Agnus Berenato has added to an already talented recruiting class with the spring signing of Kate Head to a National Letter-of-Intent.
 
Head, a 5-foot-5 point guard from Brisbane, Australia (Ipswich Girls' Grammar School), joins Amani Johnson (North Versailles, Pa. / East Allegheny HS) and Peyton Lewis (Hampton, Ga. / Locust Grove HS), who signed with the program in November, as 2018 signees.
 
"I am extremely excited to welcome Kate Head to our second signing class," Berenato said. "Kate is a great addition to our 2018 recruiting class and will compliment two highly-talented recruits in Peyton Lewis and Amani Johnson, who earned WBCA Honorable Mention All-American honors following her senior season.
 
"Kate will add depth to the point guard position, and challenge Amani every day as she possesses terrific court vision, good ball-handling skills and loves to play defense," Berenato added. "She is able to break the defense down with her penetration and find the open teammate. She has a confidence about her that comes from playing internationally in the US and Australia, earning multiple MVP honors, and will bring that success to Kennesaw State. I look for Kate to be a leader, have a voice on and off the court and have an immediate impact on our team."

Leading scorer in 2016 and 2017 . . . Regional team member from 2014-2017, served as team captain in 2015-2017, and MVP in 2015 and 2016 . . . Played for the Queensland School Girls' team in 2016 and 2017 . . . Selected into the Australian School Girls' representative team in 2016 and 2017 . . . A member of the Queensland South State Team that won a silver medal at the 2016 Australian Junior Championships . . . A part of the regional state championship team in 2015.
 
Amani Johnson (Point Guard, 5-6, North Versailles, Pa., East Allegheny HS)
A four-sport athlete, participating in basketball, softball, soccer and volleyball, at East Allegheny High School . . . Enjoyed standout senior campaign while serving three years as team captain on the basketball team . . . 2017-18 WBCA Honorable Mention All American and Pennsylvania Gatorade Girls Basketball Player of the Year finalist . . . Averaged 26.7 points, 6.5 assist, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.9 steals as a senior . . . Scored 47 points in state playoff game while leading team to the semifinals . . . Two-time WBCA/Max Prep Region 2 Player of the Week as a senior . . . Led East Allegheny High to consecutive undefeated regular seasons . . . Selected to play in the Western Pennsylvania Round Ball Classic game following senior campaign . . . Concluded career with 2,345 points, 553 assist, 496 rebounds and 353 steals . . . Three-time All-Section honoree, and two-time Pittsburgh Tribune-Review Terrific 10, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Fab Five and 3A CoverThree Player of the Year selection . . . Also named the Beaver County Times 3A Player of the Year . . . Four-year captain of the soccer team, earning all-section four times and All-WPIAL on three occasions . . . Finished career as school's all-time and single-season leader in goals scored . . . Two-time all-section softball player . . . A 4.0 student who earned February Business Student of the Month recognition.

"It is an honor to have our first WBCA Honorable Mention All-American in Amani Johnson, who had a stellar senior season and concluded her career with over 2,300 points, 500 assists, nearly 500 rebounds and more than 350 steals. Amani will bring a winner's attitude to the Owls both on and off the court. She was president of the National Honor Society, senior class and student government, and tied for Valedictorian with a 4.0 GPA."
 
Peyton Lewis (Shooting Guard, 5-9, Hampton, Ga., Locust Grove High School)
A standout performer at Locust Grove High School in Locust Grove, Ga. . . . Scored over 1,600 career points . . . Garnered 4-AAAAA second team all-region honors and Henry County Player of the Week honors as a senior . . . Earned 4-AAAAA All-Region Team honors as a junior after helping team to the Georgia State 4-AAAAA tournament . . . Member of the 4-AAAAA Henry Herald South Metro Team of the Year . . . Selected to the Region 4-AAAA first team and Henry Herald/Clayton Daily News Team of the Year as a sophomore . . . Earned Region 1-A Private first team honors after helping Eagles Landing Christian Academy to the Elite Eight . . . Also played softball as a freshman, helping the Chargers to the Georgia Region 1-A Private state championship . . . An honor roll student who plans to major in psychology.

"Peyton enjoyed a decorated high school, amassed over 1,600 points and served as team captain. She is a talented player who has demonstrated leadership skills, and will add depth to the backcourt while bringing a winning attitude to the program."
 
This year's signing class marks the second under Berenato, who along with her staff, has recruited back-to-back ASUN Conference Freshmen of the Year.
 
"I am very excited to have Amani, Peyton and Kate join the program and help us reach our goal of moving up in the ASUN Conference and competing for a title," Berenato said. "All three of these ladies are winners and will have an immediate presence."
